When we are first introduced to Sydney Hunter, we are given a brief glimpse of the story. It is all pretty much exposition. After the brief narrative, we are given the tools necessary to continue: a jump pad, a supply of bombs, a set of health orbs, and our trusty sidekick, Dodo. After selecting the jump pad, we are thrown right into the action. The controls are very easy to get used to and the controls used are perfect. Dodo can be found on the controller map or by pressing left on the D-pad. Dodo gives us a running and jumping boost, it does not take a whole lot of effort to pull off these moves. Dodo is our new energy tank. As he runs, Dodo increases the amount of health orbs he carries. This helps to keep us going during times when we are in need of a serious attack. Dodo also gives us a chance to steal and throw bombs. Dodos bombs are thrown by pressing left on the D-pad and it will throw the first bomb. He will then follow up with a second and a third bomb. If Dodo runs into a wall, we will not throw the bomb. Dodo will then automatically throw the bomb, just in time. He can also be used as a recovery move for falling down into pits. Dodo can be turned on and off with a slight press on the right side of the D-pad.

A new face is added to the game. The character is known as Clem. Clem and Dodo can be switched out at any point. You can only have two characters on screen at any time. A character’s appearance only changes when the level changes. The enemies will only attack Dodo while Clem is in their sight. Clem does not have any direct effect on gameplay, but it is nice to be able to see him and use Dodo for a little added help.

There are six levels. Each level is different than the last. The only way to play each level is to not mess around and press A to jump. If you use Dodos bombs or throw them, then you will be able to jump over some of the pits. There is also a bit of exploration in each level. We need to head to the left or right to find a way to reach the end of the level. There is also a friendly skeleton that will help get us over some of the pits.
