Vietnam is the latest member of Square Enix’s lineup for the anniversary of the company’s first coin-op game, Final Fantasy. It’s also the latest game by the development studio behind Final Fantasy VII. A word of warning: it’s a bit of a mixed bag, with flaccid storytelling and characterization and combat that’s a bit too forgiving. It’s definitely worth playing, but in my opinion, you need to be up for a certain level of frustration to get the most out of it.

Within the game’s first half hour, you’re introduced to your main character, Ibuki, and her inquisitive little sister, Ashi. Ashi starts off clueless and simple-minded, but from the outset of the game, your goal is to take your new car and introduce her to the world, where she’ll begin to learn and grow.
