Threads and Generics

I have an application in which I utilize the Java Collections Framework, mostly in the form of Maps. This application also utilizes Servlets and JSPs.
One of the things that I’m trying to do is to invoke threads from within the Servlet. I’ve done it before, but in that instance I had a concrete class that I declared something like:
Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadController(p.servlet, servletMethod, this);

This approach seems to work, but I’d like to have the ability to better handle the thread by decoupling it from the type that it’s going to be working on. So, for example, I’d like to be able to do something like:
new Thread(“thread name”, new Runnable() {
public void run() {
Map stuff = new map();
doSomethingWithStuff(stuff);
}
});

The above example does not work, but you get the idea. What I’d like to do is be able to do something like what you see in the below code. What I don’t know is how to configure the ThreadFactory to allow me to create a generic thread class, or at least something that would allow me to store the thread-specific params in a collection/map of that specific type. The only other approach that I’ve thought of is using the AbstractExecutorService as seen in the below
