Photoshop CC
Photoshop CC has been Adobe’s flagship program for quite some time now, and it is by far the most popular image manipulation program.
You can download this application, which provides desktop-based, online, and cloud imaging tools and other utilities, from www.adobe.com/photoshop.
The interface allows easy movement between blocks of images.
If the Photoshop zip archive file is being downloaded, you’ll find a program called Photoshop. This is a simple utility program that provides a very limited number of operations. Because this program is so simple, it can be used as an educational tool, although I still wouldn’t recommend it for beginners.
If you’re using the Windows version of Photoshop, you can open it directly in Windows Explorer or by using Windows Media Player or Windows Photo Viewer.
Photoshop does have a lot of manual control options that enable extremely accurate selection of specific areas within an image. However, it’s impossible to tell if you have the correct area selected. In this case, moving the mouse around and watching how the photo changes with each new positioning of the cursor is the only way to make sure that you have the right portion selected.
Adobe Photoshop Elements
Adobe Photoshop Elements has been an outstanding program for many years. It still provides a wide range of basic imaging tools such as the ability to edit photos and create photo montages.
If you are just starting out in Photoshop, Elements is a much simpler program, so don’t expect to do as much in it. However, elements can be very effective for beginners who just want to learn the basics of image editing. There are thousands of tutorials available that can help you learn the basics of Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is often described as an Apple iPhoto replacement, although it functions more like an editing program than a simple photo manager.
Lightroom is only available as part of an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, and it is primarily targeted at professional photographers, although it does have some simple photo management capabilities. Because it does not require an interface such as that in Photoshop, it is much simpler to use for beginners.

Managing Layers in Photoshop Elements
In Photoshop, you create a new layer. In Photoshop Elements, you create a new layer by pressing Ctrl + J on your keyboard.
You can also create a new layer by pressing the New Layer icon or pressing Ctrl + Shift + N on your keyboard.
You can’t save a Photoshop Elements layer image without first converting it into a PSD.
If the image you are editing includes transparency, the new layer will become a copy of the transparent layer, but you can easily find the layer and edit it.
You can view the layers in your document one layer deep. You can view layers in the Layers panel by clicking on the little arrow in the right-hand corner of the Layers panel.
You can double-click on a layer to open it in a new tab, or, click and drag layers out of the Layers panel to leave them open in a separate tab.
You can right-click on a layer and select Show/Hide; the layer itself is hidden by default.
You can make a selection of a layer and click the Esc button to hide the layer, or simply select the layer and click the Home button.
You can’t convert a fully transparent layer to a new layer.

You can change the opacity of a layer from the Layers panel.
You can edit the fill and stroke attributes of a layer by double-clicking on a layer in the Layers panel.
You can duplicate a layer by clicking the Duplicate icon or pressing Ctrl + J on your keyboard.
You can copy, move, delete and reorder layers in Photoshop Elements just like you do in Photoshop.
You can use the drag and drop function to move, copy, rename, or remove layers in Photoshop Elements.
You can quickly find a layer by using the Quick Selection tool.
You can delete a selected layer in Photoshop Elements with the Delete Layer button.

Miss Finney, the pig, is too cute for words!
Police in Connecticut received a call from a citizen late Thursday night about a small dog near a mobile home in a disabled section of the woods. That citizen told officers the dog was in the woods near a mobile home and when she saw it she thought it was a puppy. She also thought it was a service dog. It was not a service dog or a puppy. It was a pig.
When police arrived, the pig was chasing a chicken near the tree line and a nest of young birds.
The police officers first thought it was a small piglet until they saw the pig’s eyes. The pig was white with black markings like a miniature pig. The pig was also white with black spots. Both the pig’s eyes and the spots were visible. The pig was sitting in a tree and would not come down when told.
When officers approached, the pig barked and ran in circles as if trying to get away. It has no tail as far as we know. The police report says the pig was “able to be walked on a leash.” The pig could also be restrained by lead wire.
The police report does not say how the pig got into the woods but we suspect the pig could have been dumped there.
The pig was hauled off to the state animal control facility in Waterbury. The animal control officer describes the pig as “adorable” and “not mean-looking.” The pig made a lot of noise when she was brought into the shelter and was trying to run.
The pig was reported to be about six weeks old. The owner is being given a chance to get the pig back.
The pigs’ short hair looks like it is rooted because of moulting.
We may have to look for a spare piglet.

1. Filters
The filters in Photoshop are very useful for altering images in a variety of ways. For example, you can use layer effects, adjustments, and textures to create visually interesting images.
2. Shadows and Lighting Effects
If you want to add a realistic look to an image, look no further than Photoshop’s lighting and shading effects. This allows you to add effects such as sun rays, shadows, and spotlights.
3. Transformation Tools
Photoshop’s Transformation tools allow you to easily warp, skew, scale, or rotate your pictures.
Creating a Vector Image
Photoshop has a very sophisticated vector-image tool called the Pen tool. This tool can create a wide variety of geometric shapes and connect them with vector lines. These lines can be moved and scaled with great precision.
To start the vector-image tool, select it from the Tools palette and click the Pen tool. It allows you to draw a line on your image by pressing the keyboard shortcut CTRL+X, for example. Figure 10-12 shows the Pen tool in use.

Creating a Vector-Object
To create a vector-object, start the Pen tool, click once to pick a starting point, and drag the mouse to create the new object. Once the new object is created, it will be outlined in vector lines, as you can see in the image in Figure 10-13. As you continue to draw new vector lines, the object will stretch to fit the space as you draw.

Once you create a vector-object, you can do the following:
* To further edit the vector-object, click the vector-object to make a selection.
* To activate the object’s transformations, choose Edit Transform.
* To change the location of the point where you first created the object, click the Select button under the Vector tool to cycle through the available points for selection, as shown in Figure 10-14.

To edit a vector-object, follow these steps:
1. Open the Layers panel.
